But I guess that's what happens when you live in Reno!
We've been hiking, biking, fishing, water skiing, floating the Truckee River, enjoying the beach at Lake Tahoe, taking short nearby day trips....and a big trip to Europe! You can read about our trip to Europe Here
And of course having fun with all the local events!
So let's start with May and the "Reno River Festival"
For 10 years now the Reno River Festival has drawn competitors from around the World to the heart of downtown Reno at the Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield for an action-packed weekend of whitewater, music, and food.
It sounded like a lot of fun so on Sunday May 12th we headed downtown to check this out for the first time.
It seems that top athletes from the pro kayaking tour were the focus of the day.
I could watch these guys all day! But there was also a Slalom competition going on upstream.
So we found a spot on the rocks to watch these guys make their way down the Truckee.
The goal is to complete the course the quickest without touching the poles!
Located between the two competitions at Wingfield Park were various bands entertaining the spectators.
This event certainly got us excited for the summer ahead here in Reno!
You're looking great, Debbie. Reno seems to be good for you.
ReplyDeleteDick and Lindy and I (yes, dog, too) drove out to the west coast last month, so it will be a while before I can get Dick to do another long drive. I don't know why he won't let me drive. I'm fine on clear roads on clear days between 10am and 2pm!
Meanwhile, I'm flying out to the east coast for a Blog Fest next month, while Dick is going up north to work, and Lindy is staying with friends. Then in March, it appears we are going to Iceland (yes, Iceland) for Dick's birthday...that's where he wants to go. Lindy has been accepted by the same friends for another stay at that time (they love her).
However, I will hint unsubtly about another car trip with Lindy, because she is so good when traveling, and Google Maps says Reno is only 18 hours away, not much farther than Vancouver.
Hi to Stijn!
Luv, K
Awe, thank you so much, Kay! I am feeling great! I actually even received a thumbs up from my oncologist!
ReplyDeleteBoy you two have the up coming months booked! A trip to Iceland? Awesome! I can't wait to read on your blog how your trip went.
Keep working on Dick! Would love to have you visit! We have a room all ready for you and a big backyard for Lindy!
Love to you too!
Debbie
Wow---what a great summer you are having... I love watching the kayakers too.... I would never do that --but I love watching them...
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous.... Bet you love Reno!!!!!! Keep up the good work, and keep feeling GREAT.
Hugs,
Betsy
Thank you, Betsy!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great summer but going by way to fast!
I really, really, really do love living in Reno!
Hugs back!
Debbie
I didn't realize Reno had a whitewater park in the downtown area. Your photos are marvelous and this looks like a fun event to attend.
ReplyDeleteYes, George! The Truckee River runs right through downtown! Starting from Lake Tahoe and ending at Pyramid Lake! There are some spots where the water runs a little faster but nothing overly special. But enough I guess to attract kayakers from around the globe!
